Well, friends. I’ve given it a lot of thought and I’ve decided to officially switch back to Blogger. I realize that everybody has their preference, similar to Coke vs. Pepsi, when it comes to WordPress vs. Blogger. I’ve had some good times here on WP, but I’ve had a fairly constant cycle of frustration with the platform and appearance of my blog since starting. I’m not ready or willing to pay to blog yet, so I’ve decided to go back to my first home. The service at Blogger itself was never a factor in the switch, I was just curious to try something new.

So. This is my final post here. I feel like it should be more poetic!

Please update your readers, blogrolls, etc.

Past posts and comments were imported over to my new place. I’ll be leaving this up for a little while longer but then I’ll probably be locking it down.

My one regret is that this is kind of inconvenient for you all and I hope that I don’t lose any of you!!!

I am so grateful for the wonderful community you have all created here, and I hope it will only grow into something even better at our new home!

As a woman, I’m allowed to change my mind.

Fabulous.

I’m thinking about maybe changing my mind. Again.

I am really frustrated with WordPress. I know. I’ve only been here 10 months. But the free version doesn’t allow much room to play and I’ve tried out every single template. Every one.

So I snapped up my blog over at Blogger. If only it would allow me to import my posts/comments all would be perfect. As it is, I keep getting an error message that hasn’t been resolved in the Google help forum. Any ideas, blog people? Anybody have any experience switching from WordPress to Blogger? I could always just retype them all. But that just seems ridiculous.

Right now I don’t really know what I’m going to do…stay here and just sit on that, blog there and leave these archives up…use them both for something? Decisions Decisions.

I’m sure you’ll all follow me wherever I go, yes? {that’s a rhetorical question…you have no choice, you know you’re hooked!}

Anyway, whatever I decide to do you’ll all be apprised and told where to go to find the good stuff. Promise.

compiling video footage of MJ’s rehearsals leading up to his comeback/farewell concert series.

As we all know, he passed away this summer and never performed this show.

I have to say, watching the rehearsals proves it would have been

AMAZING.

Man, could he sing.

Man, could he dance.

How many 50 year old men can move like that, even if they were able to in their youth?

It was an amazing experience, practically like being at a concert.

They ran through each number.

Including all the hits.

People were tapping their feet, bobbing their heads, clapping and singing along in the theater.

That was it, and it was awesome.

Let’s not talk about the fact that the last installment was in May….this is a little long, and the majority isn’t about Oman but about my 20 year old mid-college identity crisis…haven’t we all been there? It helps me immeasurably to know that 3 years later, these questions have been answered better than I ever imagined. I’m excited to see what 3 years from now looks like!

December 22, 2006 9:44am (OST) – House of the Date Palm

In about an hour and a half we’re heading to church (again), but I wanted to jot down some thoughts from my evening devotions since I’ve been in Oman. It feels like everything I’ve been reading has had a real relevancy, yet I’ve been so overwhelmed by the external that I haven’t had time to process the internal.

Yesterday I read Hosea 9, and today I read Hosea 10. I don’t think I’ve ever really read Hosea before. My new Bible doesn’t have the historical context and I can’t remember where in the scheme of things Hosea came in, but it’s really convicting, if I take the time to ponder it. Today, for instance, verses 4, 12, & 13 of chapter 10 struck me especially. We’re constantly being lectured on not taking Scripture out of context, but I’m keeping the context in mind.

v4: They make many promises, take false oaths and make agreements; therefore lawsuits spring up like poisonous weeds in a plowed field.

I’ve always had an issue with saying yes to everything and then killing myself to get it all done so I don’t end up breaking my promises. Wouldn’t it be better, then, not to promise at all? Yet in our society, if you say, “I can’t promise” it’s like you’re saying you don’t really want to do whatever it is you’re being asked to do, not that you just might not have the time or be able to commit.

Also, Hebrews 3:12: See to it, brothers, that none of you has a sinful, unbelieving heart that turns away from the living God.

and v15: Today, if you hear his voice do not harden your hearts.

I feel so spun around and confused as to what I am supposed to do with my life. Half of the time I don’t know what is the Holy Spirit pushing me and just my own inclinations. For instance, since we’ve been here I found out that they are thinking of starting a semester study abroad program. Immediately I began imagining what it would be like to be back here in a year or so. Wow. Would I be able to do it? Or would it break me?

Perhaps I need to be broken.

I’m beginning to think that the American Studies Program track I’m on may not be the best choice, as far as semester off campus goes. It’s just so within my comfort zone. And I tell myself I need an internship, but do I really? Isn’t that what I’m doing this summer, hopefully? I just don’t know what to do with myself. Denver feels like the right grad school right now, but now I wonder if studying human rights is too narrow…Would international affairs be better, with a human rights concentration? And then there’s law school…::sigh:: I really want to live abroad someday too…ugh.

Maybe I should just set up meetings with [my faculty advisor] and [the career development office] and [the study abroad coordinator] when I get back to the US and try to figure out my life.

It’s just all so overwhelming sometimes, not knowing what to do. I feel like everyone else has it easier…if you know you want to teach, or be a doctor or a lawyer or whatever else it seems like the path is already laid out. What can I do with a Political Science degree from a small liberal arts college?? I’m just not sure about law school…I know I have time to make up my mind one way or the other, but it seems my mind is changing every other day!

M’s here to take us to church, so I’m going to leave it at that for now.

December 22, 2006 5:30pm (OST) – House of the Date Palm

C, KG, and I are the only ones at the house right now. Everyone else has gone down to the souq. The three of us are waiting for N [our friend from college who is an international student from Oman] and her family to arrive. It’s so great that she was home for the holidays while we’re here! They may come shopping and to dinner with us. We are going to the Grande Mosque tomorrow, plus a museum and art gallery. Then Sunday we’re off to dolphin watch and snorkel in the Arabian Sea. Holy moly, how cool is that?!

I’m kind of in a funk of a mood. K and I slept through her alarm and my stomach is upset from this horrible drink this afternoon at lunch. It was lemon mint juice. C, K and I all thought it would be a minty lemonade. It was definitely PURE lemon juice with crushed up mint leaves.

See my fancy way of keeping my friends off my blog? That's what happens when paint is your photo editing software!! I'd also like you to keep in mind that I was in the middle of the desert, it was HOT, no makeup, serious jet lag, and drinking the most disgusting thing ever...all of which contribute to the horrificness of this picture of me. That's how committed I am to honestly recounting this trip, bad pictures and all. And overly lengthy photo captions.

I’m sleepy and don’t really feel like shopping at night. I just feel like being alone and sleeping. But I’m not and I can’t, so I better get over it. Hello Mr. Jet Lag Culture Shock, nice to see you.

December 23, 2006 8:30am (OST) House of the Date Palm

In about 20 minutes M is coming to take us to the Mosque, followed by a museum and an art gallery…and lunch. It sort of feels like all we do is eat here! Might not be true, but it feels that way
